happy may day!
i highly recommend watching Harlan County, USA (1976). directed and produced by barbara kopple, she flew into harlan, kentucky to document striking miners and the struggles their families faced. it's available on the criterion channel.
Matewan (1987) isn't a documentary, but it's a decent portrayal of the battle of matewan that took place in west virginia in 1920.
